I was blessed to receive what can only begin to be described as a “Channelled Healing Tangle”.  Julie was able to create the most beautiful image that not only brought joy, but also healing to my mother and her injured aorta. Making the human aorta into a gorgeous piece of art seems impossible, but not in this case. Once Julie provided me with this pattern of love and healing, I was called to put colors to paper and contribute my piece of the puzzle. One late night between hospital visits led to an explosion of colors and sparkles that completed the energy circle. The final piece of art was gazed upon by many and clearly contributed to my mother’s rapid recovery. We are full of love and appreciation for this creative gift. Thank you Julie, my mother and I are excited to know that others will benefit from your “Healing Tangles”.

Secondly, Candance (aka The Tiny Tangler) and I are collaborating on a project creating healing tangles for use by those in healing crisis. I’ll feature a sample in my next blog post.

Now, for the subject of this blog post… NOW! Candance and I recently collaborated on a NOW clock for our friends at EarthStar Spiritual Center in Greensboro. Manawa, one of the seven life principles of Huna philosophy means “NOW is the moment of power.” We created this NOW clock using the EarthStar Shamanic Mystery School logo instead of hands (so the time is always NOW) on a background of the yin/yang symbol of balance. I tangled white on black representing feminine energies and Candance tangled black on white representing more masculine energies. The clock actually works! The logo rotates because it’s attached to where the second hand would be, and the logo syncs with the circles in the yin/yang symbol as it spins. Pretty cool! Many thanks to The Tiny Tangler for her ingenious idea!

Tangled Holiday Greetings

I found blank cards with envelopes at the local craft store. I used a black Zentangle® Trading Card and tangled snowflakes (aka ‘zenflakes’*) with Gelly Roll pens (Metallic Gold, White, Stardust Clear Star) for these holiday card gifts.

Glue the trading card to the blank card OR simply cut two small slits in the front of the blank card and slip the trading card into the slits. A great card AND gift in one!

Tangled 3D Stars

Adapted from Susan Breen Silvy’s 3D Star Template  www.susanbreensilvy.com

1. I made my Zentangle 3D paper stars from standard white card stock and scored the folds with a tiny, ball -type burnishing tool. (See PDF project worksheet below for template.)
2. Score all lines on the back side of the paper, using a ruler for accuracy, then cut out the star.
3. Carefully fold the dashed line scores toward you (create a mountain). Fold the solid lines away from you (create a valley) to get a three dimensional effect.
4. Flip the star and tangle on the blank side with your favorite pens.
5. Punch a small hole in the star with a craft needle and add a cord or hook for hanging.

I began this piece on 11-11-11 as part of my meditation that day, infusing hope and love into each tangled stroke. It is truly a gift from the heart ~ from many hearts ~ to a very special person.

Tipsy Tanglers!

The class began with a classic black on white Zentangle. Instead of the Zentangle pencil, some students opted for the violet, with nice results. (I included a Prismacolor Violet color pencil in each class kit so we could carry the wine motif into the tiles.)

For the second tile, we used 4½ inch pieces of wine-colored Canson paper and tangled with the black Micron pen. We then applied some accents with a white Gelly Roll. I’ve been excited to experiment with combining black and white on colored paper for awhile and this class was the perfect opportunity. Again, some opted to shade with the violet pencil, as you see here.

With a combined group of beginning and seasoned tanglers, the results are amazing! It was such a fun event and  I think everyone enjoyed learning about Zentangle.
